Hot Cocoa in a Jar

December 12, 2017

If you need a fun and “sweet” gift idea, try making some hot cocoa in jar!

First of all, I can’t believe all the snow we got this past weekend here in GA. It was such a beautiful surprise and our kids were in heaven. Since we had a lot of time at home, Jules and I decided to make these hot cocoa in a jar.

People ask me what gift ideas are best for teachers. My response is always gift cards. No matter the amount, teachers love getting gift cards. I always stick with Target, Amazon or Starbucks for the coffee lovers. So this year, my kids’ beloved teachers and bus driver will all receive a gift card. But what about for your neighbors, piano teacher, etc? I alway like to a do a small homemade gift like banana bread or marshmallows but this year, Jules and I decided to put together hot cocoa in a jar. They came out so cute and we tasted them to make sure the recipe was on point. We plan on giving them to our mailman and garbage men too because I want to make sure they know how much we appreciate them. No matter how small the gift, it’s truly the thought that counts and it’s just another small way to say thank you especially during this season. Here’s how to make your own hot cocoa in a jar.

Jules and I had a little too much fun.

Hot Cocoa in a Jar

Ingredients:

  • Mason Jars (I bought small mason jars from Target)
  • 3 cups Dry Powdered Non-Fat Milk
  • 2/3 cup Unsweetened Cocoa
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups marshmallows
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

The directions to make the hot cocoa is a 2 to 1 ratio. So if you use 1/2 cup of mix, stir in 1 cup of hot milk or water.

Directions:

In a large bowl, place all the ingredients and mix it together. Fill each jar up and tie with a ribbon. I made printables for mine and attached them to the jar. If you want the printable, just email me at loveyourabode@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to share it. It’s nothing fancy. I punched a hole and added it to the jar with some ribbon.

This is to document how grown up my 10 year old looks now. So sad!! I have a feeling she’s going to be as tall as me in a couple of years.

Jules and I had a little too much fun putting together this video for you guys. Enjoy!

Have a wonderful week, friends! I’ll be back tomorrow to share the last part of the Merry and Bright Holiday Home Tour. I shared my kitchen tour last week too!

xoxo,

yuni

Such cute pictures of you and your daughter! I am jealous of all that snow! We moved to the West coast from the East coast recently and I’m still getting used to Christmas with 80 degree weather and palm trees. :). It’s great that you are so thoughtful of gift giving to your broader community. Love your blog!
