It’s my mom’s bedroom reveal day!!!
The time has come for my mom’s bedroom reveal! I love that it’s finished just in time for Mother’s Day. If you’re new here, welcome! For this One Room Challenge, my siblings and I decided to gift my mom a new bedroom for her 60th birthday. Mom turns 60 in June and she has always wanted new furniture for her bedroom. Instead of getting just new furniture, I thought it was the perfect time to give her a complete room makeover. She is absolutely thrilled and texts me during the day at work to say she can’t wait to get back home and chill in her new bedroom. I think that’s a sure indication she’s quite happy with the end result. If you want to start from the beginning you can click on Week 1, Week 2 , week 3 , Week 4 and Week 5 posts.
I’m linking with the other ORC participants at Calling it Home and sharing the weekly progress of my mom’s bedroom makeover.
This is what we started with.
BEFORE
Bye bye bye, baby blue walls and ugly, old furniture from the 80’s. YES! They have had that forever. #immigrants
AFTER!!
I’m a little, ok A LOT in love with this wallpaper from Graham and Brown. It’s called the Chelsea sand wallpaper and it’s so gorgeous, I’ve already picked a nook in my home where I’m going to install this beauty. Pretty big difference right? It feels so fresh and bright in here. It’s amazing how a space in your home can instantly elevate your mood. This is why I love design.
Gone are the days of ugly, nasty, dated wallpaper that reminds us of the 80’s. Wallpaper has made a major comeback and the selection that is currently available now is just crazy. I totally recommend using wallpaper because it can create an amazing focal wall like I did here. It acts as a major statement and is a large visual piece of art in the room. Are you convinced yet?
I bought my mom a new duvet, Ritva drapes from Ikea and these are my go to side panel curtain rods.
It’s all so soft, light and feminine. My mom wanted a nice neutral retreat and that’s exactly what she got.
My mom exclaimed, “ahhhh I feel like I’m in a fancy hotel!” The headboard was an awesome find and is super comfortable to sit up against. I found a pair of these gorgeous lamps from Homegoods.
This is my fourth time working with wallpaper and if you’re looking for something unique with high impact, this is it.
I even used the wallpaper to back the frames of all the 6 grandchildren.
I’m pretty sure this is my mom’s favorite part in the bedroom. She sure does love her grandbabies.
I created a little sitting area for her with the comfiest leather swivel ottoman to prop her feet up.
It’s a perfect little spot to relax, read and rest.
The dresser was a lucky find at Homegoods.
A little stone bowl holds some of her delicate jewels.
A pink hexagon tray from Amara holds a Kate Spade jewelry box and silver ring holder.
The dresser has a beautiful antique finish on it.
The French doors lead to the bathroom.
The fan is a mid-century design and I love the juxtaposition of it with the rest of the room. You know how much I love mixing styles.
Emmy got in the pics because she’s Emmy and it’s hobby. This is what she thought of the makeover.
Dear mom, thanks for your resilience, unwavering love for us and your strength that is beyond our comprehension. My parents have experienced many struggles in life and they have overcome much. Their immigrant story is one of pain, many hardships and a ton of sacrifice. We moved to the US when I was about 5 years old and it was right before I started Kindergarten.
My mom still shares the story of how they had to work 60-70 hours a week doing as much overtime work as possible so they could save enough money to start my dad’s dream business. She remembers how sad she was knowing I couldn’t speak English and had to start school in a completely new environment, learning a new culture and language. All the while, my grandma was taking care of my sister and me because my mom and my dad were working so much. Her heart as a mother broke and she shared this story with me when I sent my oldest to Kindergarten over 5 years ago. Of course, I can’t remember much back then but being a mom myself, I understood for the first time how much her heart would’ve hurt. Recounting this story brings tears to my eyes because it’s just one of the hundreds of stories that come from an immigrant family. I am humbled and thankful for their story because it’s a part of my own story.
This is most special One Room Challenge makeover yet because it’s a small way of saying thank you to my mom. She truly deserves the best.
Thank you so much for reading, friends. Again, this was such a special project and I want to thank some of my generous sponsors for helping make this bedroom come together for my sweet mom.
