Old nightstand transformation with paint
One of my favorite ways to bless someone is by gifting them a room makeover. If you have followed for a while, you may know that my in-laws actually live right next to me. Yup, we are in the same neighborhood. My MIL and FIL have an apartment in the finished basement of my sister-in-law’s home. After the passing of Granny June in Sept, I talked to my SIL about gifting a bedroom makeover for my MIL. We decided it would be the perfect Christmas gift. So I went to work painting the room, adding wallpaper, and giving my old nightstand a transformation.
This post is sponsored by Handy Products but all thoughts, styling, and opinions are my own.
In September our dear Granny June passed away at the age of 94. My MIL was her primary caretaker and they shared a room so that she could be under constant supervision. She suffered from Alzheimer’s and the last two years became pretty difficult with her condition worsening over time.
Since the space didn’t have a window, it also felt super stuffy and sterile. When Granny June passed, they removed the hospital bed and it looked and felt even colder and empty. That’s when I knew it was a good time to give her a bedroom makeover.
Here is where we started.
BEFORE
And here’s the old nightstand that I wanted to paint to match the new bedroom. I painted it white many years ago but it was really badly scratched from use over the years.
Ready for the AFTER?!
I thought it would look beautiful painted in this soft green to match the new wallpaper and wall color. It’s the same color as the walls and linked at the bottom of the post.
Every paint job is made easier because of Handy Products. The Handy Paint Pail is perfect to use when using a paintbrush. It has a comfortable handle so that you have a firm grip on the container AND it has a magnet on the edge of the bucket.
This allows you to magnetically attach the paintbrush to the side instead of making it sit inside the paint at the bottom of the bucket. The handy paint pail also has disposable liners that you change out with each project. Between drying times, you can use a cover so that your paint doesn’t go to waste. It’s truly genius! I can not and will not paint without these products.
I can’t believe how much this room changed with some paint and wallpaper. I also gave the nightstand some new soft gold knobs that I found at Homegoods.
My MIL said it was the perfect gift and it made her feel like she was stepping into her vacation sanctuary every time she came in her room.
I actually used my favorite Handy Products like the tray and liners to paint the walls too.
It’s pretty common to see soffits in basements so I just painted those part of the ceiling in the same green as the walls. The nightstand blends in and feels soft and pretty. I wanted the room to look and feel like a boutique hotel. The ornate mirror is an antique find.
Let’s take a final look at the BEFORE and AFTER!
The room lacked any personality and warmth.
There’s some personality for ya!
I’m so ecstatic that my MIL loves her Christmas gift. Thanks to my awesome friends at Handy Products for sponsoring this special project.
The paint is Dirty Martini in eggshell sheen and was gifted by Clare Paint. The gorgeous wallpaper is Floral Field in Green and was gifted by Form Paper.
