Client Reveal: A Newly Purposed Room

March 13, 2018

See the full transformation of this client’s unused den into a newly purposed room.

Today, I’m so so excited to share this client reveal with you. This space belongs to my good friend, Cheryl and she was so sweet to entrust me with transforming her den. Cheryl really wanted this unused den space to become a place for her to read and do work. She has already told me how much she loves using her new space to do just that. It has already inspired her to be more productive in that space. I just love that because I find that to be true too. When a space has a specific purpose, it really does inspire us to be more productive and helps us to maximize that area. I just love that I got to help create a newly purposed room for Cheryl. Plus, it’s the first room you see when you enter into the house!

Here’s the BEFORE!

I have had the opportunity to work with all kinds of people with different budgets, size of space and style. With Cheryl, the things that were important to her were budget, finding a recliner chair and keeping the striped chairs for the space. She also decided to keep the coffee table so I recommended chalk painting it to give it a nice update.

AHHH this is always my favorite part!

AFTER!!!

Whatcha think?! I still incorporated the striped chairs on the left, brought in an awesome recliner that looks nothing like a lazy boy. Yes, that chair on the right has a pull out recliner. Isn’t it so pretty? Cheryl did an awesome job painting the coffee table and giving it a nice update. Guess what? She also painted her old piano and brought it in from the other room. We needed something against the focal wall and the piano was a an obvious choice. You can see a bunch of repurposed furniture pieces I did with paint like my breakfast table and guest room furniture.  I have done so many projects with chalk paint and Velvet Finishes paint to update and give life to old pieces.

I asked Cheryl to paint her walls in Sherwin William’s Alabaster. The new paint really updates and lightens the room up so much doesn’t it? Paint is a cheap way to really freshen up an entire space. It completely changed the vibe from dull and muted to bright and airy.

I loved installing this gallery wall with special black and white photos. Cheryl is in the Navy and so you can see a lot of special photos of her and her family in uniform. She also does a ton of voice over work so you’ve probably heard her voice in commercials on tv or radio! She is a woman of many talents.

I used pops of aqua and turquoise against the neutral backdrop.

I decorated the coffee table with vintage candlesticks, books and displayed some of Cheryl’s trinkets and treasures.

The keepsake box holds a bunch of treasures that Cheryl found while doing her favorite hobby, metal detecting. I love the antique spoons on the tray. These are all great conversational pieces and I love adding things that are sentimental and important to my clients.

I always make sure to add greenery because it adds color and life to every space.

Pillows and throws add a level of coziness and color to this newly purposed room.

I love this view from this angle. The new drapes add an ethereal touch and lets the light shine in through the windows.

I still can’t believe this is a recliner! Those days of old grandpa recliners are long gone, people!

Look how cute Cheryl looks! Doesn’t she look so comfy? She is totally in her element and right at home.

Looks like my work here is done, folks!

Here’s a final BEFORE and AFTER!

Anyone with money can create a beautifully, styled home. But I believe that even with a budget, you can create a well decorated space that brings you a lot of joy. It may take a little more DIY, smart shopping and creativity but it can be done!

I recently finished another reading room for a client, a neutral foyer , a global inspired den and a farmhouse family room.

Thanks for reading, friends! If you want to see more client reveals, you can find them on my Projects tab.
