This week’s Friday Favorites include a lot of furniture DIY, a fostering update and a fun idea for date night.
Hey friends, hope you all had a great week. It’s time for Friday Favorites and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been up to. I was really lucky this week to have some time at home in the mornings so I got busy sanding, painting and reupholstering furniture. I bought an old dining room set from a friend last month and it has since been sitting in my garage. It belonged to her late FIL and it had just been sitting in storage in her basement. I didn’t have any time to work on it until this past week and my goodness, I can’t wait to show you guys. I shared it on my Instagram stories but I’ll be sure to share a post on this makeover soon. I’ll just say the furniture was pretty old, dingy and badly damaged but a little DIY love can truly bring anything back to life. If you’re wanting to do something similar, I’ve shared a bunch of my own DIY projects that you can look through to see Before and After transformations.
This past weekend, we celebrated our dear friend’s 50th birthday at a jazz club. If you’re in the north Atlanta area, you really should check out The Velvet Note. It was a really fun experience and the jazz club is intimate and rated #1 in Atlanta. The food was a bit pricey and not worth it in my opinion. I would recommend eating somewhere else before going and just having drinks, appetizer or dessert while watching the show. I ordered the short ribs but had to order dessert because the dinner wasn’t sufficient. Well, that and I’m a little oinker.
My son, JJ had a Veteran’s day party in his school because his teacher throws a big party for almost 30 veterans every year. I volunteered and it was such a great event seeing the kids paired each with a Veteran. My FIL, who is a Veteran, came and was paired with JJ. All the food was sponsored from restaurants and donated by students and their families. Thank you, Veterans for all that you have done to serve our country! We truly are thankful to each and every one of you and your families for your sacrifice.
Have you made Sunny’s rum cake yet? It not, what’s wrong with you?! I’ve already made it 3 times in the last week. One of my readers said she made it and loooved it. Her husband, who doesn’t like sweets even complimented her on the the cake!
The new Hearth and Hand collection by Joanna Gaines hit Target last week and I have to say I loved the pieces. Here are a few things I picked up.
If you love any of their modern farmhouse decor, my recommendation is to buy it online since I think a lot of the good stuff has already been picked over. I heard they aren’t restocking in the store either until next season’s line comes in.
Lastly, we had our first home study visit from our social worker as our family prepares for fostering. It went really well but there are so many things we still need to get done. We have to purchase a lot of things because of the strict guidelines they have for foster families. IE: magnet locks for cabinets, getting a fireplace screen, moving furniture around the bedrooms, fire extinguisher, extra locks for doors, fire escape ladder, etc. We have to childproof everything including my cosmetics. We still need to get our fingerprints done, finish some more paperwork and take our kids to get their medical evaluations complete. It’s a lot of stuff but I know that they are strict for a reason. I’ll share a whole other post on this because it deserves it’s own. I also think it may be helpful for anyone else out there who’s interested in going into fostering. Please pray for us as we prepare!
Have a wonderful week, friends!
