5 Ways to Style a Maxi Dress

August 6, 2017

Here are 5 ways to style a maxi dress so you can get a lot of versatility with one dress.

I recently started a video series called Simply Styled Sunday. Last week, I posted my first video for the series where I shared tips on how to refresh or update a sitting area in your own home without having to replace the existing furniture. I love sharing practical and inexpensive ideas on how to give new life to your home. Today, I’m sharing 5 ways to style a maxi dress. This is totally going outside of my comfort zone. After attending Haven, I decided to challenge myself to do get of out my normal zone and try out some new ideas. I love feedback so if this video or post is helpful, I’d love to hear from you!

I’ll preface this post with the fact that I’m no fashion expert. However, I’m all about looking put together without too much fuss and maintenance. I also love when a piece in my wardrobe can be styled in multiple ways. As a busy mom of 3, it has to be comfortable and appear effortless. Since I’ve started working a bit more outside the home, I’m having to look more polished for my client consultations. I love mixing a casual piece with something a bit more sophisticated so mixing and matching are always my wardrobe game.

I’m the girl that buys two of the same item if I love it that much. That’s exactly what happened when I spotted this dress upon entering the store. My girlfriend and I walked into Dress Up, a local boutique store and I immediately said I needed to try on that maxi dress. You guys, it’s basically like public approved pajamas. I’m not even kidding. I bought the gray and blue maxi and I’ve been wearing them on repeat for weeks now. The dress is now sold out but I found another very similar option for only $20.99 and it has great reviews.

Here are the 5 ways I styled the dress for the blog but I honestly could’ve shared a bunch more because it can be worn in so many different ways.

Style 1: Basic

5-ways-to-style-maxi|loveyourabode-21 I’ve worn it this way the most with the front tied up. For sizing references, I’m 5’7″ and am wearing a small. It’s a long dress so tying it in the front helps with the length and it looks super chic!

2. Casual

All you need is your favorite jean jacket and a pair of cute tennis shoes.

3. Bohemian

Throw on a lacy cardigan or oversized sweater and you’ve got a completely new look.

4. Edgy

With a leather jacket (or faux leather like mine), clutch and some booties, this makes the perfect fall weather outfit. My husband liked this one best because he said it was perfect for date night.

5. Beachy

I threw on a cute little lightweight plaid button up, sandals and a hat and it created the perfect beachy or summer ensemble.

Here’s the video version so lmk what you think!

Thanks so much for reading and thank you so much for the sweet comments and messages about my sweet friend from my last post. We are praying hard for her. We’ve shed many tears through the devastating cancer news but we’re pressing on with faith and trusting in the Lord’s hand over her. Thank you for covering her with your prayers. She is so encouraged by the outpouring of love and support.

Have a great start to the week, friends.

I love that you are stepping outside your comfort zone! And you nailed this post! I am the same way, if I find something I like in the way of clothes, I buy a few of them. I’m not much of a fashion shopped so if I can buy a few things, I’m happy!

Thank you, Janine! Yes, I have been known to buy 2 of the exact same pair of shoes too.

‼️📢Calling all ramyun 🍜 aficionados!‼️My friends @sunny_side_up_today and @lifeofjaykim just opened their ramyun restaurant @ramyun.gallery.atl in Duluth! This fun concept lets you mix and match from a variety of ramyuns and toppings so you can customize your bowl and make them in instantly with their machines just like they do in Korea. It’s such a fun and unique idea!! If you’re local, go and try it out❤️ What’s your favorite ramyun? Mine is definitely Shin with an egg and kimchi. 😋
