With a few new updates, we never want to leave our modern traditional living room
When people ask me what my style is, I typically say it’s a mix between the modern and the traditional. Some people call it transitional but I also love antiques and filling my home with interesting thoughtful items. I’m no minimalist but I do gravitate towards clean lines, a ton of natural light, and organic materials. My friends at The Home Depot partnered with me to give our living room an update and I feel like our ever-evolving living room finally feels just right. Did you know you can find the most amazing home decor and furniture that’s only available on homedepot.com/decor?
This post is sponsored by The Home Depot but all thoughts, opinions, and styling are my own.
Let’s start with the BEFORE!
I’ll be the first to say that our before photo is lovely. However, the main issue was that we didn’t have enough seating available for friends and family. Our vision was to seat at least 8 people comfortably in our family room and thankfully we were able to achieve that goal.
AFTER!!
One thing I really wanted to add to this room was some color and this LoLoi Loren Brick rug did just that. In my opinion, the rug looks traditional yet modern with vibrant colors and patterns. It’s stain-resistant and is offered in other beautiful colors.
This has to be my favorite angle of this room. The rug pulls in all the beautiful tones from both sofas, mantel, and paneled wall.
The navy striped ottoman looks great against the new rug and offers a place for guests to rest their feet. The round accent metal table provides just the right amount of space to hold a drink or snack in between the armchairs.
The Home Depot also offers a huge selection of home accents like mirrors and decorative objects. These battery-operated tapered candles help add to the ambiance without the danger of real flames. They come in a set of 4 and I put 3 of them in a vintage brass candle holder. The nesting decorative boxes provide storage and look beautifully styled on the mantel. Lastly, the ornate Baroque-inspired black mirror looks vintage but it’s new!
We added this mid-century designed ebony buffet table from the Home Decorator’s Collection that sits right behind the leather sofa. I really wanted a place to store our beautiful stemware and this offered a good amount of storage while looking stylish. I added some baskets to hold some of Emmy’s craft supplies since she does most of her activities right near this spot.
The glass doors slide easily making it super functional for our family. It’s a safe way to display some of our cherished vintage and family heirlooms in the cabinet instead of being hidden and tucked away in cabinets.
Okay, the real showstopper for this space is our new leather sofa. Can you even?!!? This chesterfield sofa is made in the USA and is luxurious with deeply button-tufted back neatly framed by classic rolled arms. It’s only available through the Home Decorator’s collection and such a great price for the quality and look. We’re most excited about adding more seating with this beauty!
The Maldives coffee table is also another beautiful addition to this room. The amazing thing about it is how much storage it provides. I store my electric blanket in there on one side and there’s also a small drawer on the bottom so we can easily store our remotes. It’s made of solid, sustainable hardwood and crafted to last. It is designed to look like a trunk with the walnut wood tones and vintage inspired hardware.
Adding a simple tray allows you to corral items together. Real plants and flowers add so much life to a room and I can’t live without them. A vintage wooden basket tray holds a bunch of polaroid photos that Emmy has taken. Another lidded basket holds scrabble pieces for when we play a game of speed scrabble.
I also got a pair of these large brown leather totes to hold things like extra blankets and cords. Our kids like to charge their devices in this corner so we keep their electronics and cords hidden in the totes and not all sprawled out on the floor.
Let’s take a last look at the BEFORE! It was fairly neutral and this space wasn’t being maximized for seating.
AFTER!!!
I’m in LOOOOVE!! I’m so happy with how every item helped to create a cohesive look. It’s the perfect blend of traditional meets modern. The varying textiles create a layered, cozy ambiance and we hope that our guests feel right at home here.
Our extended family has thoroughly been enjoying our new living room with plenty of room to sit and relax.
Thanks to my friends at The Home Depot for helping us achieve this new design for our space. Be sure to check out Homedepot.com/decor to see the amazing selection of furniture and home decor that’s all available online.
