Make a cute and practical mask necklace lanyard
When we first started wearing masks, it definitely was an adjustment. It’s become such the norm that I don’t even think too much about it when I go out now. This mask necklace lanyard is pretty darn cute but it’s also super functional especially when I’m running errands. I don’t have to worry about stuffing the mask in my purse every time I’m in the car or when I’m walking outside.
With the kids starting school, I knew that they would have to wear a mask all day. Thankfully, they have adjusted well and they are also pretty used it. My friend bought them some normal cord lanyards but it got me thinking of making a cute one. That’s the problem with a creative brain. You start thinking of how you can make one thing even better and you know I’m all about form and function.
The easiest and most resourceful way to make these is by taking an old necklace and cutting them. All you have to do is add the clasps. That’s how I made the first few and then I decided to buy some small wooden beads from Walmart in the craft section. This also makes the perfect craft project to do with kids.
If you don’t have an old necklace, gather some beads from the craft store or Amazon. The nuts and chocolates are not for the lanyard. I just always need some snacks while crafting.
I loved this warm color palette.
I strung the beads through some jewelry stretch cord I already had on hand. Just be sure to make it long enough for your preference. Tie the ends at least a few times.
Tie the snap hooks at the end and that’s it! Now, just clip in your mask and you’re set. I went to Trader Joe’s the other day with it on and I got a few compliments. One lady said she was going to go home and make one that day!
Isn’t it cute?
Jimmy and our friend, Mike are modeling them for me. I’m not really sure what’s happening here. I think Jimmy is bringing out his inner model. Mike actually took the one he’s modeling and said he was going to wear it at work!! Ha!
I bought my tie-dye masks from Old Navy.
I wasn’t planning on sharing this tutorial because it’s pretty straight forward but then I thought it could be helpful especially to kids in school and essential workers. You know my Emmy wants a cute one!
If you make one, please share it with me!
xoxo,
