All you need to covering ugly hardback books is some modge podge and some books!
Now that it’s officially Autumn and cooler weather has arrived, I’m itching to decorate for Fall. I decided to switch out a few decor pieces from my mantel to add a touch of Fall. That’s when I got the idea of covering some ugly hardback books with some aged book pages.
Chances are you have some ugly hardback books lying around the house. You know what I’m talking about. They have the plastic-looking hardcover with all sorts of crazy colors and ugly spines. Don’t judge me but these are not pretty. You know I love using solid color hardback books and incorporating them into my decor.
All you need for this easy project are some book pages, modge podge, a paint brush and those ugly hardback books. The best part is that you can still read the books so don’t get all mad, ok? I was very excited about covering that hideous fishing book! Don’t worry, JJ can still read it.
Here’s how to create your own.
Grab the following items
- old book pages
- ugly hardback books or even paperbacks
- modge podge and foam brush set
- something to cover your surface
Take a few pages out of your vintage book. I love the antiquey look they have because the pages look worn and stained. Don’t worry, we’re never going to read these books that I ripped the pages out of. They were estate sale finds and I thought the spines were absolutely beautiful.
Give your cover a nice thin coat of modge podge. Start on one cover and add al little to the inside so you can fold the book page inside. After you’ve essentially glued on the book page, add another coat of modge podge. Make sure that everything is nice and covered. I let them dry standing up so that the cover gets aired out. You will need them to dry them for a least a few days.
When I knew they were completely dried, I styled them on my mantel. Haha, Biology for beginners. Nope, never reading that one! Praise God, Biology and Chemistry classes are behind me!
After they were completely dried, I stacked them up on the mantle. No more ugly fishing books! Ha!
I added my live snake plant and some faux branches with some pretty art leaning against the mirror. You can decorate for Fall without using pumpkins.
Yay to Autumn arriving. You know what this means. Christmas is just around the corner! 😉
Thanks for reading!
xoxo,
