See how this blank slate turned into a beachy glam bedroom.
I hope you all had a wonderful Father’s Day weekend. Today, I finally have the opportunity to share my best friend’s new beachy glam bedroom makeover. Unchong and Craig Obrist celebrated their 10 year anniversary last year and they saved up to gift themselves a beautiful new bedroom. Unchong kindly asked me to help style the room and I was more than eager to help. I’m sad to say that this post is literally over a year old. After Craig shot the photos for their new bedroom, I wanted to change some areas and reshoot but that never happened. I can’t blame them because they are incredibly busy people. Well, I guess better late than never seems to be a recurring theme around this blog.
Craig and Unchong run a successful photography business and you probably saw some of their work here on the blog because they shoot all of our family photos every year. He has also taken photos for me for my guest room makeover along with my recent bathroom transformation.
I wish Unchong had kept a real BEFORE picture but Craig got too excited and cleared the room and forgot to take a before picture. Just imagine a darker room with really old mismatched Ikea furniture. Here’s the one that he did remember to capture right after the room was painted. There’s nothing like a fresh new start to designing and styling a space.
The Obrists had the color, Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore matched at Sherwin Williams. They also chose a beautiful bedroom set from Havertys. The quality of the furniture is amazing and I know they bought it to last forever. Enjoy the photos. I think Craig captured everything here perfectly.
After Unchong shared her dream with me regarding the vision of the bedroom, we went shopping!
When I spotted this gorgeous mirrored piece at Homegoods, I knew it would be perfect for this corner. We picked up the lamp, clock and coral from Homegoods too. I love going there as a one stop decor shopping experience.
Unchong placed these frames up and they complement the mirrored accent table. The chairs were also bought from Homegoods. I’m not sure where the ottoman is from but I actually wanted it removed after looking at these photos. They did decide to return it because I didn’t think it worked for the space. Just picture the corner without the ottoman!
The bedside lamps were from World Market and the bedding and pillows were all from Homegoods.
Craig found the clock from Homegoods and I thought it looked great above the dresser instead of the standard mirror. Above the dresser on one side, there was this electrical box that was an eye sore against the wall. I used taller pieces of decor to hide it from view. You can easily hide unsightly areas with plants, lanterns or other decor pieces. The turquoise color is Unchong’s favorite and it’s the main accent color for this room. She also loves globes so we created a vignette with her collection on top of the armoire.
I just love how everything turned out! They did such a great job with the the trim that they added onto the main focal wall. I love how they put up their canvases too. Aside from photography, Craig also has some great carpentry skills. I’m telling you, these two are spilling with talent.
I helped find all these accessories from Homegoods along with the woven tray. I liked it so much, Unchong bought me the same tray too!
Use old books to add height to decor pieces like this faux orchid.
Their master bedroom is a beautiful mix of beachy farmhouse and modern glam. The chandelier was from Pier 1 Imports and the tufted bench was from Homegoods.
When the room was completed, Unchong kept saying she felt like she was at a resort. I’m so happy they finally have their own space where it serves as a beautiful refuge from their long and busy days. Thanks, Obrists for letting me be a part of this fun makeover!
Friends, isn’t this room so serene and lovely? I hope you enjoyed the master bedroom makeover. Thank you for reading and be sure to pin your favorite images.

Hi Yuni!
I just found your site, and I love your style.
I had a question about the the turquoise armoire…did you paint it, or was it painted that color when purchased? If you painted it, would you be able to share what color was used?
Thanks,
Mimi

Hi Mimi, thank you so much for reading. The armoire is actually a part of the furniture set from Havertys. It’s a gorgeous piece and I love how it came as a contrasting color. Hope that helps. Thank you for the sweet comment!
