Make Up Makeover

September 17, 2015

makeover 1

Recently, I cleaned and organized all of my makeup. Here are some simple tips that I used to give this area a much needed makeup makeover.

First things first, empty out those drawers or cabinets full of makeup.

This is a great time to check for expired cosmetics and throw out the ones that need to be discarded. Here’s a simple guide on the general timeline of makeup products.

This is also a great time to clean all your makeup brushes. I use Dr. Bronners castille soap, but any mild soap will do. Wash with soap under warm running water, rinse thoroughly, and allow the brushes to dry on a towel overnight. I try to do this at least every other week to eliminate bacteria and buildup on my makeup brushes. If you use your brushes everyday, then it’s best to wash them more frequently. Make sure to also clean and wipe down your drawers and countertops.

Next, I used these plastic organizers to create additional compartments within the drawer. I bought two of these from Walmart for less than $4 each and they fit perfectly. The compartments provide more than enough space for all my cosmetics, eye care, and hair accessories. You can also find smaller sized acrylic trays at Target, Homegoods, and Walmart.

I love the clean look of these trays.

Everything is neatly organized and now has a clear home. Finally, I decided to add a little touch of Yuni to the drawer because…you know, I love when things are pretty and functional! I took some wrapping paper, cut it to size, and taped it inside the drawer. This literally took 3 minutes!

Sometimes, I can’t help myself.

makeover 8

Pretty right? Simple touches can make a big difference.

makeover 9

I love when things are used for different purposes. I used a tiered stand on my counter to hold my most used toiletry items like facial cream, sunblock, perfume, deodorant, etc. I also store my makeup brushes in a goblet. I heard it preserves the lifespan of the brushes. I’ve been doing this for years and it works well for me.

makeover 10

I also love using trays to hold items together. Again, pretty and functional!

makeover 11 It felt so good cleaning and purging all of my old and unused makeup. Now, all of my most used cosmetics are neatly stored and easy to access. Depending on the type of space you have, find a solution that works for you. You may not have a drawer but you can find standing acrylic shelves that hold makeup on the counter. If you have smaller drawers, you can utilize smaller trays too. There are so many options! Hope you found my ideas helpful to tackle your makeup area.

When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:25-26
