Friday Favorite Five Edition 14
Happy last week of January! I hope you’re all staying warm and healthy, friends. Last weekend, I took a very last-minute 24 hour trip to go and surprise my little sister for her 38th birthday up in Albany. They said I came on their warmest day which sounded crazy considering it went down to 7 degrees that night. I don’t know how you northern people do it! This southern girl can not live without the sun and warmer weather. It was an epic 24 hours and we had so much fun. Anyhow, let me get to this week’s Friday Favorite Five Edition 14!
Favorite #1: Fresh Flowers
There are a few things that are part of my routine, especially during the cold winter months. The routines consist of drinking many cups of delicious hot tea in the morning, running 5 miles every other day with my girlfriend, and admiring fresh flowers in the kitchen.
Every other week, I will pick up a couple of bouquets of fresh flowers from the grocery store. My local Kroger almost always has a nice clearance section and my local Publix has fresh flowers for a great price. Other times, Jimmy surprises me with a big bouquet of roses from Costco. But I swear, the grocery store flowers tend to last longer for some reason. This week, I did a bouquet of hot pink baby roses and two toned tulips. They instantly brighten the kitchen and add life to the space. It’s a small way to add something really beautiful to a space you spend time in every single day. In the summer, I tend to cut fresh flowers from the yard which is a real treat. Go and treat yourself to some flowers today, friends. You deserve it!
Favorite #2: The Handmade Soap
Every week, I try to focus on a small business, and this week it’s The Handmade Soap. They were kind enough to send me these products and I have to say I’m really loving the diffuser. The great thing about them is they use natural ingredients like essential oils for their diffuser and room spray. I currently have a diffuser in the bedroom and I am really happy with the amount of scent it gives off. It’s subtle and not overpowering. I’m sensitive to strong smells so this is the perfect amount of fragrance in our bedroom. It’s subtle, soft, and a really nice fragrance.

Favorite #3: Gold Candelabra Sconces
As you know, I am giving our bedroom a refresh and next Tuesday will be the full reveal. Jimmy and I just added these gold candelabra sconces and they are just stunning. The great thing about these sconces is that instead of hard wiring them, I added hockey puck lights so that they are battery-powered.
If the shade on the sconce is large enough, you can easily hide the puck light as I did here. The puck lights come with a double-sided sticker and after I added the batteries, I just stuck it inside on top of where the light bulb would screw in. It sits perfectly on top and doesn’t move around.
It’s easy and still gives off just the right amount of light! I have done this magic light trick from nestingwithgrace for so many areas in my home.
Favorite #5: Carpini Decorative Gold Mirror
I just love the clean and classic look it gives. The large rectangular gold mirror is also from Signature Hardware and perfectly complements the sconces.
Look how pretty it looks at night all lit up with our electric fireplace. See how it emits enough light? It actually has the option to change colors too but I like to keep the soft white light. My electric fireplace is no longer available but there are many other similar options online.
Favorite #5: Blue Bayou
When I flew up to New York last weekend, I saw a movie called, Blue Bayou. I was intrigued because it was about a Korean-American adopted immigrant who faces deportation from the only place he’s only known as home.
Justin Chou wrote, directed, and played the main character. The acting was really phenomenal and I was so moved by the entire film. I highly recommend watching it as it was one of the best films I’ve seen in a really long time.
xoxo,
