Delight

January 19, 2021

My word for 2021: DELIGHT!

2020 was a hard year and to be honest, 2021 hasn’t been all that much better. Our country is still struggling through the pandemic and the political climate has been tense, . Although the circumstances may have not changed all that much, I have been determined to guard my peace and find delight in the everyday.

I made a conscious decision this year to really focus on finding the little joys in the everyday moments. I saw a quote recently that spoke to me. It said…

“Don’t ever save anything for a special occasion. Living is the special occasion.”

Isn’t that so good? Naturally, I love having people at my house and sharing the gift of hospitality with others. It doesn’t seem like things are changing anytime soon so I decided it was time to bring out our special dishes and use them everyday.

We also hit a very big milestone in our home. My kids no longer need any plasticware! I’ve had some of these pieces for 13 years and it was time to donate and pass it on to someone else. We kept a few things for our foster kids but it felt so good to clean out the cabinet.

It was also a great time to get rid of items that were no longer a part of a set. I really want to use our special pieces to serve us everyday.

Some of my favorite vintage dishes came out and the kids were a bit hesitant at first and asked why we were using the fancy stuff. I told them that there was no purpose in storing them away when we could use them every day ourselves. If we break one, oh well. They are just things after all. I’d rather they be used and break than sit in a place collecting dust.

It’s really a small thing but it totally elevates the ordinary. I swear my food tastes better too!

We’re even using the vintage goblets for ice cream!

I hope you’re staying safe and healthy, friends. Here’s to finding delight in the small things and celebrating the everyday no matter the circumstance.

xoxo,

I miss her big giant hugs, random crazy dance moves, impromptu jams on the piano, base guitar, harmonica, and ukulele. It’s a mix of excitement, happiness and sadness and I’m letting myself feel it all. I catch myself getting weepy throughout the day but I feel a deep sense of gratitude for this new season and what she’ll get to experience.
Aside from the rug, the girls styled their space and it turned out so cute. I love that she’s rooming with her friend from 1st grade. How can my child be in college?!😭😢
