A special guest room for our future precious guests
Hey friends! We just finished Spring Break and had way too much fun. For the first half of vacation, we spent some time on our friends’ beautiful lake house for a few days. My kids did not want to leave and honestly, we didn’t either! Maybe it was because the second half included what seems like 10 loads of laundry, washing all our slipcovers, buying groceries, doing lots of yardwork and getting our cars serviced. I know, LAME! Being an adult can be the worst, right? HA! Well, at least we can eat chocolate whenever we want so I guess it balances out in the end. The kids still had fun playing with their cousins and friends so it wasn’t all work for them. I’m happy to report that my mom’s bedroom also got painted for the One Room Challenge. Today, I wanted to share our special guest room for our future foster children. I did a sponsored post with Mattress Firm a couple of months ago but I wanted to make sure I shared some photos over here too.
I shared last Friday that we just got connected with a foster family in our area. We will provide respite care for their 4.5 year old foster son. We still have to schedule which weekends we can have him over so that’s probably going to be happening in the next month. Another close family friends of ours also just got placed with a little girl so we hope to respite for them as well. Starting with respite care seemed like a great transition for our family before going into it full time.
There was a lot of waiting around after our papers got processed by the state but I’m learning that there’s really no time table for these types of things. Thankfully, Jimmy and I are very flexible people and kinda just go with the flow. I will make sure to keep you all updated so that prayers can be sent our way and especially to the littles ones that will enter into our home.
I kept this room as gender neutral as possible since we will probably welcome both boys and girls into our home. I just wanted it to feel safe, cozy and welcoming.
Stuffed animals are ready to welcome their new friend.
I was on a time crunch working on this room because it was right around Christmas time and we needed to finish our home study evaluation. It was important to me to prepare this space and I wanted to put in the time, thought and creativity to make it really special.
I hope they feel safe and welcome here.
If you want to start from the beginning, you can read about our fostering journey part 1 and part 2. It has been a strong pulling from the Lord for a couple of years now.
That verse up there is really important to me and is a resounding theme here in this blog.
Again, I’ll be sure to keep you all updated. As alway, thanks for reading, friends and letting me share our journey with you all!
xoxo,

Thanks, Ade! I wish I knew! I painted it right when we moved in and didn’t record the name. It was pre-blogging days lol

The room looks very peaceful and welcoming. Since you and your family all seem to have big hearts and are listening to the Lord this will be a great choice for you all. My husband and I are trying to listen really carefully right now too, we are starting to move into a new phase of life and know we feel a pull towards some new challenge. God Bless your special family, with open ears and hearts, Barbi K.

Barbi, thank you so much for sharing those kind words. I’m lifting a prayer for you now and for God to gently guide you and your husband in this phase of life. I know he has great plans for you both. Thank you for always taking the time to comment here. I truly appreciate more than you know. 🙂
