See how we transformed our den into my new and improved office space!
This year has taken the phrase, “working from home” to a whole new meaning. After working from home so much this year, I knew my office needed a few changes to better run my business. My friends at The Home Depot worked with me to change and add a few accent pieces and furniture to create a beautiful and multi-functional space. Over a year ago, I created a little office area on one wall of our piano room/den. I believe that you can get creative in making an office even if you don’t have an actual office room. This room went through a big transformation last year so it’s important to share how it started off. This den used to be a playroom for our three kids for many years. After they grew up, we moved the play area upstairs to our bonus room and the den became the piano room and office.

This was the small wall I decided to convert to my office area. Last year, I painted the walls white, painted the large bookshelf, and added curtains.

Before, I was using an antique console table that I had painted. It worked okay but the drawer didn’t come out fully so it wasn’t functional and the height wasn’t a standard desk. This ivory writing desk from The Home Decorator’s Collection is well built and the drawers are perfect for holding office essentials like my stapler, paper clips, and important documents. The desk fits perfectly on this narrow wall with the narrow width and depth.
I knew I needed a new chair and the ivory swivel chair is perfect. You can adjust the height and it’s so much more comfortable for my body especially since I have chronic back issues. It can easily be tucked in all the way in the desk so that it’s out of the way when we utilize the accent chairs.
The floating shelves come as a pair and are available in different stains and sizes. The shelves are deep enough to hold larger decorative pieces, art, and office supplies.
I’m a big plant lover and these air plants are the coolest. There are an assortment of 8 air plants and I tied them on an old wicker frame with some twine. I also placed one in the small glass planter. The two gray stone vases come as a pair and are the perfect pieces to decorate any shelf. The matte black bowl holds some of my larger paper clips.
The floating abstract art displays the prettiest pastel colors and brings a nice contrast to all the organic colors and textures.
The Home Depot offers so many different decor pieces and I love their assortment of natural stone and wood vases and planters. The hand scraped mango vase is originally made to hold utensils but I used it as a planter for one of my smaller pothos plants.
I have to say my favorite addition to the space are these beautiful ivory accent chairs from The Home Decorator’s Collection. They are not only comfortable but it’s made with performance fabric which is liquid-resistant making it highly durable. If you have young kids or pets, these chairs are for you. They even sell sofas and larger pieces of furniture making it so easy to shop everything from the comfort of your own home.
The gold metal nesting tables are also from The Home Decorator’s Collection and are wonderful for entertaining. You can tuck in the smaller table under the larger one or use both at the same time.
The Home Depot also sells bedding, textiles, and pillows. These geometric blush pillows add a nice feminine touch to the accent chairs.
Jimmy and I decided this is our new date night area. We haven’t gone out for a date night since March so welcome to our new spot!
You know I love a good charcuterie board! If you’re looking for some pretty glassware, The Home Depot offers a huge selection.
I chose the 13 piece Wine Enthusiast because the wine decanter is included and the glassware is absolutely gorgeous. As you can see, Jimmy is enjoying everything very much!
The black modern stoneware dinnerware is a classic set for a fancy tablescape or everyday use. I use the mug at my desk and have a bowl to hold paper clips on the shelf.
The stoneware is a 32 piece set that’s for 8 table settings. I love the matte black and it’s perfect if you’re looking to set a gorgeous neutral table for the holidays.
You can use the stoneware for appetizers just like I did here.
The natural demeter gray 8×10 rug is stain resistant for easy care and maintenance. The neutral colors can easily be used to fit any room and style.
One of my favorite additions to the space is the banana leaf basket LED table lamp. It uses an eco-friendly 9W LED bulb that’s included. I love the texture as it complements the rest of the room nicely.
The gorgeous ornate gold antiqued mirror has a classic design and looks beautiful in any home. The gold trim detail makes it unique from other mirrors.
I’m super excited about working in my new and improved office area! I love working next to all the windows because I crave natural sunlight while I work. When I need a break, the comfortable chairs provide a nice spot to rest or still continue working on my laptop.
If you’re looking for a more ideal place to work in your home, try looking for a small wall for a desk like I did here. I’ve worked in different rooms from my house and this spot continues to be my favorite one.
