Hygge Home Tour

January 11, 2018

Welcome to my Hygge Home Tour!

In case this word is new to you, here’s the definition I found online. Hygge (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) is a Danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment, whether alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary as cosy, charming or special. Have you ever heard of this term? Basically, this Danish concept emphasizes contentment with the simple things in life like a good book, cup of tea or being with family. As the winter months can be long, cold and dreary, this concept of hygge can really help to bring that level of coziness and comfort to your home. I’m so excited to share my hygge home with you along with some of my talented blogger friends.

Nothing says cozy like a good throw on the bed or couch. I always have multiple blankets laying on our couches because we love snuggling with them in the evenings. I love our large knitted throw and it really adds a lot of texture and warmth to the space. Textures in pillows also add an element of coziness to any space and I love mix and matching them.

The tray helps to hold our hot drinks at night. You can almost always find me with a cup of cinnamon tea at night here working on my computer while Jimmy watches tv and folds laundry. Thank God he is the master at folding laundry because it ain’t me!

Ever since we did the dark paneled wall in our family room, I love the drama it adds to the space. It adds character and warmth to an otherwise very neutral room.

The furry stool is so fun and also brings texture to the space. Plus, it’s perfect for propping up your feet. All the Christmas decor came down two days after Christmas. I had it up since Halloween when I was working with brands so it was really nice to put it all away and have a fresh start for the new year.

Curtains and rugs always add warmth and complete the space. I always like to incorporate wooden and/or basket pieces into a room too because it also adds a natural element. Plants whether real or faux help to bring the outdoors in and always add life and color to any room.

I love this little vignette on our sofa table. The faux candles are controlled by a remote and it is so pretty at night. Look how cozy! I also like to keep out the twinkle lights out all year around and they are perfect intertwined with the garland around the faux candles.

I recently washed our slipcovers after Christmas and now they’re clean and fresh again. It has really worked well with our family because we can throw it in the wash whenever necessary.

Everett Foyer Table is on sale for $100 off!

I hope you enjoyed the tour! Having a hygge home doesn’t mean you need to spend money. Cook a nice meal and enjoy it with friends and family. Enjoy winding down with a good book and some popcorn instead of staring at the phone. Light the candles and enjoy looking through a magazine. Keep it simple my friends!

Here’s the list of the entire home tour going on today with my friends. I hope you’ll check it out because I know you will be inspired! Don’t forget that Grove Collaboration is still giving away a great bag of amazing freebies when you spend $20 for any cleaning essentials. It’s going on until Sunday so don’t miss out! I love using them!

I miss her big giant hugs, random crazy dance moves, impromptu jams on the piano, base guitar, harmonica, and ukulele. It’s a mix of excitement, happiness and sadness and I’m letting myself feel it all. I catch myself getting weepy throughout the day but I feel a deep sense of gratitude for this new season and what she’ll get to experience.
Aside from the rug, the girls styled their space and it turned out so cute. I love that she’s rooming with her friend from 1st grade. How can my child be in college?!😭😢
