This special family heirloom tablescape is representative of how far our family has come
My love for a beautiful tablescape is clearly a known fact. That is probably my favorite part of staging a home for sale because you can really go creative with the table linens, glassware, and dishes. Even flatware is an important detail not to overlook. This family heirloom tablescape is really special because they contain pieces that will be crystal passed down to our kids and hopefully, grandchildren one day.
Waterford Crystal sponsored my posts on Instagram but I loved the products so much that I had to put them on the blog too. Thanks to my parents for everything they sacrificed to get us here. This post is dedicated to them.
When my parents immigrated to the United States back in 1984, they only brought a couple of those large bags from Korea. These were called immigration bags, “이민 가방” and every Korean immigrant family knows exactly what bag I am talking about. It’s tall and has wheels on the bottom.
Immigrant families packed all of the most important precious items into these bags and brought them over with them to this new country. It’s quite humbling when you think about it because I can’t imagine the courage it took to do something like that.
How do you decide what to bring and what to leave behind? My parents brought over clothes, photos, and the most important and practical items with them. It’s safe to say it wasn’t much and they pretty much started from scratch in a strange land with a foreign language, food, and culture. I’m sharing all this because I’ve had time to think a lot about what we pass down to our children.
The most important and valuable are personal stories, values, family history, recipes, and culture. Some other things are like the family piano that my parents gave to us. One day, I imagine we will give it to one of our kids and they will pass it to theirs.
I dream about the family heirlooms I will pass down to my kids that will continue for each generation. The purple Winter Wonderland collection is so special because it’s a limited edition series that will available for 6 years.
We already broke the Winder Wonders lilac frost flutes last weekend with our friends and I know we will continue to use them throughout the year. They are absolutely beautiful and I can’t tell you the amount of detail in each crystal.
The clarity and brilliance of each piece are truly amazing. A few years ago, we traveled to Italy and had the opportunity to see master glassblowers. It is truly a special talent that takes years to hone and craft.
Do you hold family heirlooms? I bet they hold so many stories and memories.
One of my kids already called dibs! I bet you know which one it is. 🙂
Here’s to not waiting for the special event to use the beautiful china and crystal. Living is the special moment so take them out and enjoy using them with your loved ones.
Thanks, mom and dad for all that you did to help give us the life we have now. Your story of grit, hardship, sacrifice, and determination is the best family heirloom we could ever receive.
xoxo,
