Cream Cheese Frosting

February 5, 2015

This is my go to recipe for cream cheese frosting. I have used this frosting for so many different kinds of cakes including, chocolate, strawberry, carrot, pumpkin, vanilla and banana. It’s delicious, creamy and has just the right amount of sweetness.

 Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 sticks of unsalted softened butter
  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of whole milk

In a large bowl, beat together the butter, cream cheese and powdered sugar with a mixer.

Add the vanilla extract and milk and whip until smooth and creamy.

I made this smash cake for a friend and doubled the frosting recipe since it uses a good bit of icing on the outside and between the two layers. You can learn how to do rose frosting on youtube like this one. I usually use an open star tip for this type of frosting.

Always put your cake in the fridge after you frost it so it can set. It just takes a little bit of practice but you’ll get the hang of it!

I did a similar type of piping for the cupcakes.

If you’re thinking of making a special dessert for Valentines Day, try learning how to frost or pipe the icing using this recipe. You could make the double chocolate chip banana bread recipe into cupcakes with this frosting. When I first started piping, my frosting looked like swirls of poop on cupcakes. Hey, you gotta start somewhere!

I miss her big giant hugs, random crazy dance moves, impromptu jams on the piano, base guitar, harmonica, and ukulele. It’s a mix of excitement, happiness and sadness and I’m letting myself feel it all. I catch myself getting weepy throughout the day but I feel a deep sense of gratitude for this new season and what she’ll get to experience.
Aside from the rug, the girls styled their space and it turned out so cute. I love that she’s rooming with her friend from 1st grade. How can my child be in college?!😭😢
