ORC: Emmy’s Room Week 1

October 6, 2016

Yuni MIn Room Cooking May 2016 (76 of 2280)-1 Hey guys, can you believe it’s already been 6 months since my guest room makeover during the One Room Challenge this past spring?

It went from this…

Yup, I still can’t believe the difference. It’s amazing what a little paint, elbow grease and decor can do! I’m so happy with how this guest room turned out and honored that it has been featured in the AJC and Apartment Therapy. Since the makeover, we’ve housed a bunch of guests in this room. I wanted the room to be beautiful, functional and allow our guests to feel pampered and loved. I truly hope that that was achieved through the transformation.

The ORC was started by Linda at Calling it Home.  Every April and October, 20 design bloggers participate in this challenge to transform one space. It’s not a competition but a way for the designers to share inspiration and sources. Along with these designers, all other guest bloggers are welcome to participate and join in the challenge with their own room makeover. It’s a great way to push yourself to finish that one area in the home that you’ve been wanting to complete. I’m joining along again as a guest participant and will share the progress of the room makeover over the course of 6 weeks. The 6th week will be the final reveal.

My youngest daughter just turned 3 this past summer and she’s grown out of her nursery. I tried keeping her in the crib as long as possible. Unfortunately, that wasn’t happening once she started jumping out of the crib. I say jumping because she literally would jump up and down, gain momentum and hop out of the crib. Maybe she watched too much of the Olympics this past summer because it was both equally freaky and impressive.

Ok, time to show you the BEFORE!

big-girl-room-one-room-challenge-loveyourabode emmys-big-girl-room-3 emmys-big-girl-room-4 Don’t worry, those metal bed frame parts were removed immediately. #safetyfirst Since taking these pictures, some of the pieces have been moved out. Unfortunately, it’s still a mess in there with no proper bed, furniture or organization.

Here’s the inspiration mood board I created for Emmy’s room.

I’m keeping the wall color the same since it’s a neutral gray. I’m moving towards a shabby chic theme and will be using some great vintage pieces of furniture that have been handed down to us from family. You can also see a lot of inspiration photos I’ve gathered on my Pinterest page.  I have also rounded up some amazing sponsors who are partnering up with me for this room makeover. The following sponsors will be generously providing these items for Emmy’s new room.

  • Lighting Design Company- flush mount lighting
  • Velvet Finishes- paint to redo old vintage furniture
  • Lamps Plus- upholstered chair
  • So Vintage Chic- pillow covers
  • Pom Pom at Home- luxury blanket and pillow
  • Simply Lovely Lumber- handmade wooden sign

So, that’s the plan for now! I’ll hopefully start painting some of the furniture this weekend. Emmy is super duper excited about it all and keeps asking when her room will be complete because her mattress is currently sitting on the floor.

She’s not excited at all. 😀

Go check out all of the ORC featured guest designers as well as the participants. Thanks for following along and wish me luck! Be sure to follow me on my Facebook Group Page and Instagram where I will share my progress on the IG videos.

Your guest bedroom is positively dreamy, so I have no doubt you’ll knock this one out of the park as well! I had to chuckle at the story of Emmy jumping out of the crib – those kiddos, they are far more creative than we give them credit for! 🙂 I hope you’ll continue sharing Emmy’s reaction to the progress – she’s way too adorable not to be featured on the blog! XO

I miss her big giant hugs, random crazy dance moves, impromptu jams on the piano, base guitar, harmonica, and ukulele. It’s a mix of excitement, happiness and sadness and I’m letting myself feel it all. I catch myself getting weepy throughout the day but I feel a deep sense of gratitude for this new season and what she’ll get to experience.
Aside from the rug, the girls styled their space and it turned out so cute. I love that she’s rooming with her friend from 1st grade. How can my child be in college?!😭😢
