Here’s how we increased storage space to an unexpected area to create the most stylish and functional hallway.
When the new year arrives, I always feel the itch to declutter and organize the various spaces in our home. It’s a good time to look at these spaces with fresh eyes and see how specific areas can better serve our family. I’m so excited to share this new space with you all in partnership with The Home Depot. They carry a huge selection of furniture and decor that is available online only at homedepot.com/decor.
This post is sponsored by The Home Depot but all thoughts, opinions and styling are my own.
Before I share the gorgeous new hallway with you, it’s important to show you where we began. Our upstairs hallway had dull beige paint on the walls and there was really nothing special going on up here. For the last 7 years, I’ve slowly gotten rid of the beige paint. It was finally time to tackle it up here and I couldn’t be more excited!
Most people only think of hallways as a passage way to the various rooms in the home. But there are so many design elements that can be incorporated into hallways. They tend to get neglected but it can truly be a beautiful and functional space.
Are you ready for the AFTER? Drumrolls please!!
Can we first just oooooohhh and aaaaahhh over the splendid grassweave peel and stick wallpaper? It totally elevated this space by adding the most beautiful texture and sophisticated touch to the walls. No more ugly beige and hello bright beautiful walls! After sharing it on my Instagram and blog, I’ve received so many photos from you guys installing the same one in your homes!
When we have friends come over, so many of them are surprised to see a good number of our furniture pieces like our breakfast table, chairs, rugs and nightstands are all from homedepot.com/décor. The Home Depot offers exclusive private brands at everyday low prices in their online-only destination store. They also offer free and flexible delivery like easy in store pick up and free returns in store or online which sets them apart from other retailers. This makes it extremely easy as the consumer to choose the pieces that you absolutely love.
Hallways can be a wonderful area for creating additional storage space. Think outside the box and add a dresser or bookshelf if your space allows for one. This creamy white bookshelf fit in this narrow wall perfectly. I love maximizing smaller walls and corners just like I did here.
I chose this gorgeous 6 drawer dresser from The Home Decorators Collection and I absolutely love everything about it. Jimmy and I put this dresser together one evening and the instructions could not be easier. Every piece was labeled and the directions and photos were clear and concise. The patina color mixed with the simple hardware create a sleek and clean design.
Dressers don’t always have to live in bedrooms and this is an example of how you can incorporate one into your hallway. I added a trio of wicker baskets as the focal centerpiece on the wall. The tall glass cylinder lamps with brass detailing add a nice modern touch while providing additional lighting. I love the height of the lamps and the clear glass allows you to appreciate the beautiful wallpaper behind it. Plus, they are an amazing price for the size and quality.
The unique aluminum pedestal dish comes with another smaller version. It is a lovely modern piece that can be used to hold candles or other decorative accents. I thought it looked stylish alone on top of the dresser.
For the inside of the drawers, I added things that didn’t really have a home. The best part is that not all the drawers are filled. It’s a great place to store any additional towels for guests, toiletries or bedding items. I stored some of my extra craft items, overflow of school supplies and my kids’ extracurricular items like uniforms for their after-school activities.
The Nuloom runner adds subtle color to the hallway. I love the length and it’s super soft on our feet. The pretty colors bounce off the rug to complement the artwork on the walls. You can find it in different colors and sizes. We own six rugs from homedepot.com/décor and we love them all.
Speaking of artwork, I hung a pair of these 20in. x 20in. framed canvases up to create a symmetrical effect. You can find a variety of inexpensive artwork at homedepot.com/décor . Art, can and should be appreciated in all spaces including hallways!
The pair of Mavery black chairs also from The Home Decorators collection look stylish flanking the dresser. The woven rattan detail on the seats is totally on trend and the crossback adds a nice farmhouse touch. Since we have a play room/theatre behind this wall, it’s perfect for moving in these chairs when the kids need extra seats for their friends. I can also bring them downstairs when we need additional seating for guests in the dining room. I also recently painted the banisters black and that updated the area quite a bit. I love using black in design to ground color and to create a classic modern feel.
The faux cowhide rug from StyleWell is unexpected and so so pretty in this space. It comes in four different colors and I always love adding some gold where I can. It would look absolutely lovely layered on top of another rug too.
The sleek lines and overall design of this ivory Bellamy bookcase from the Home Decorators Collection provide the perfect transitional piece for our home. It allows for a ton of storage space and the trio of seagrass baskets are perfect for hiding towels and extra toiletry items. I placed two on the top to add extra height to the bookcase. These inexpensive baskets are collapsible and look great while storing essentials.
Make bookcases functional and stylish by mixing in decor accents to keep it from looking cluttered. Bookcases can also serve as the perfect place to store extra pillows like these pretty Safavieh Florentine ones. You can find the flameless candles, pedestal dish and ceramic vases all at homedepot.com/décor .
What do you think? I am loving our new hallway so much! It’s gorgeous, functional and oh so stylish. If you are looking for some affordable pieces that have great quality and offer popular styles, you’ll definitely want to check out homedepot.com/décor . I’m delighted by the amount of choices they provide through their online store. There is a style for everyone including farmhouse, modern, traditional and more.
