Here’s how to fix up a weird nook with peel and stick wallpaper and some paint.
Do you have one of those places in your home that just bug you? I have this nook in our house near our family room that just always annoyed me. I wanted to do something with it but didn’t want to spend much money or time on it. A few weeks ago, I had an idea click in my head. You know what happens next right? 😉 It was a quick weekend project that literally took less than 2 hours from start to finish. Here’s how to fix up a weird nook in your home like mine below.
BEFORE
Design wise, I’m not a fan of nooks. Builders like to add them as visual interest but I think they are more of a pain to decorate and can end up looking awkward. This space is in between our guest room and main bathroom. Both of those spaces were actually transformed during the the One Room Challenge.
Here’s how to fix up a weird nook!
I came across some peel and stick wallpaper and knew that was what I needed to give this nook an update. This is a terrible iphone pic but basically, I used one roll to get this area covered. This area always felt dark and awkward and it’s one of the last places on the main floor that has the original builder beige paint.
Since I didn’t want to purchase anything new except for that roll of wallpaper, I took one of my old side tables that was just sitting around and decided to give it a fresh coat of paint. I planned on placing it against the nook wall to cover up some of the vent. There’s really no good place to put one of those ugly but necessary vents.
The kids begged to help me so I let them go to town. We gave it two coats of paint. The kids did the first coat with Sherwin Williams, Peppercorn. I used this same paint for our living room focal paneled wall and mantle. Once that dried, I applied a second coat with glossy black paint.
Let’s see the AFTER shall we?
Such a small thing made the biggest impact!
I used the peel and stick wallpaper for the wall and painted the nook inside using Sherwin William, Peppercorn. I wanted to create a little drama and focal point. The seagrass wallpaper adds so much texture and dimension! Can you tell I’m excited?
I love how the black accent table creates a little area for me to style something extra.
Here’s a better idea of where this nook is located.
I’m super happy with this area! I just ordered a sconce so I’m waiting for that to arrive so I an install it above the nook. That will just about complete this small space.
What do you think? Do you have a small area you want to update? I highly recommend this peel and stick wallpaper! This is not a sponsored post but honestly, I’ve become addicted to this wallpaper and have already done another project with it and will be doing a third soon. I love it that much.
