The reveal went live but I just had to share the BTS of my sister’s Christmas makeover.
Recently, I shared Yun Mi’s Christmas makeover with Home Depot. We had so much fun that I had to share some BTS of my sister’s Christmas makeover here on the blog. We worked hard but we sure did play hard too. We only get to see each other a few times a year so when we do get together, we maximize our time and it’s always an epic time of laughing, eating and dancing with the kids. Ready to see some behind the scenes? Everyone loves a good before and after but there’s a lot of work that goes on during the process from start to finish.
I decided to take both my daughters up to New York and made it our first girls trip. Since Yun Mi has two little girls, it was perfect.
JJ had a blast staying back at home and having total dude time with his dad and his boy cousins who live next door.
Look what we arrived to? Nora held the sign and welcomed us to frigid New York.
So fun!!
It snowed the day we arrived. I swear it snows every single time I visit my sister. The kids immediately played outside when we got to their home. There’s Yun Mi’s husband, James! James and I went to high school together and have been friends for a long time. I always joke that Yun Mi and I found the tallest Koreans we could find in Atlanta and married them. They both happen to be named James too!
Sorry girls but your snowman looks real sketch and creepy.
After bath time, these 4 all were sporting some crazy messy hairstyles. #vacationhair
Yun Mi made us some delicious food like this crazy blueberry cream cheese stuffed french toast bake. It’s so cold up there, all you want to do is eat, hibernate, repeat.
We did have to hit the Home Depot though so we could get started on our Christmas makeover. Here is just some of our awesome loot. I felt like Oprah. “You get a nutcracker, you get a tree, you get ornaments, you get a wreath! ” I visited my local Home Depot to get a sense of what they carried and it was a lot! I was confident we would find everything we needed once I got up there.
We also hit a couple of other stores and got some things for some other areas of their home. Loved this large wooden board from Marshalls. The girls are “helping” me with the letters.
I wanted to restyle this little area which holds a lot of crafts for the girls. It also serves as nice beverage station when they have guests over. Yun Mi ended up ordering baskets from Home Depot online that fit perfectly in the shelves. Here’s how I styled the top.
Fun right?
I clipped some branches outside and put them into these clearance vases we found at Target.
I loved styling this little landing off the staircase. The skinny pencil tree fit perfectly.
Their home is old so it has a lot of character with all the wooden trim, molding and architectural ceilings.
The girls had so much fun together. They added all the faux snow on the tree along with the ornaments. Every day Nora prayed these sweet words, “thank you Lord for eemo (auntie) coming to decorate and make our house so so beautiful.” Gosh, that melted my heart and reminded me that decorating is so much more than the stuff. It’s about creating a space that makes a home. Even a small 3 year old appreciated this. #uglycryingnow
To me, the smallest vignettes are just as important. Details are what make it shine.
Their new family member that Yun Mi named, “nutcase.” I so want to get one for myself from Home Depot.
Remember the BEFORE?
AFTER
This room was so much fun to decorate.
We hung up some curtains that James and Yun Mi already owned and it was the perfect backdrop for the room.
Look at lil Zoe gettin the gifts! This is what ensued after we finished the makeover.
Dance Party!!
Growing up as kids, my sister was always the clown and made us laugh with her crazy shenanigans. Some things have NOT changed.
Last minute stylin so we could take their family pics. I’m still working back there while they are up to no good.
Nora: “mom, what are you doing?”
Yun Mi: “baby, just being myself.”
So cute!
Cousin time is the best time!
There are 3 pairs of sisters in this photo!
On the last day, we hit the snow field right across the street. Omg, it literally took us 30 minutes just to get dressed to take the kids outside.
Worth it!
Although someone would disagree. #overit
This is pure joy on the face of a true southern child. #bless
We tried some sledding.
Love my little Zoe bear.
It was definitely a trip for the books. It was short but it sure was sweet. If you want to see any hilarious videos, I saved them on my IG highlights. Be prepared to laugh your head off.
Thanks for reading, friends! This was by far one of my favorite jobs that I got to do as a design blogger. I just celebrated my 4 year blogging anniversary this week! I’m truly thankful for all the wonderful opportunities that have come my way because of it.
I’m doing a small giveaway on my FB page for 4 tickets to go see the World of Coca Cola. I love experiences and making memories more than material objects so I thought this was fitting. Go enter and a random winner will be drawn on Thursday evening! Thank you so much for being the best readers and for your support. The LaZBoy contest also ends this Sunday!
xoxo,
