National Foster Care Month

May 10, 2018

May is national foster care month.

May is national foster care month. In Georgia alone, it’s shown that approximately 13,500 children are in foster care. That’s a staggering number and there are so many kids who are in current need of a home. There aren’t enough homes available for these kids so you can understand this is a huge need.

A few weeks ago, our fostering agency, Faithbridge asked if our family would be willing to be a part of their promotional video. To tell you the truth, I had a ton on my plate and I almost said no. But they really wanted to include people of color and it reminded me of the fact that Jimmy and I also feel convicted to mobilize and encourage others, especially Asian Americans to consider helping foster children in our community. I know not everyone is called to bring foster children in their home but I do believe as believers we are all called to care for orphans and widows in our own unique way.

The promotional video got pushed back and we had to tape it two days after I was coming back from a trip from NY. Watching this video now, I’m sooo glad we said yes. The video is so well done and it made me teary watching it. It only confirmed why our family said yes to fostering.

This past weekend, we also had the opportunity to spend time with our respite foster child, L. It was such a sweet time and my kids fell in love with L already. We will have him spend the night soon at our place so this was a great step for all of us.

Okay, so here’s the video! Please feel free to share it in hopes that it will spur the hearts of others to join this incredible ministry. You have the ability to change the direction of a child’s life and that is such a priceless gift.

Thanks so much for reading, friends and thank you so much for your kind words on yesterday’s post regarding my mom’s bedroom makeover. It was a labor of love and truly a special project. I’ll be back tomorrow for an outdoor dining post blog hop with a bunch of my blogger friends. Stay tuned!

xoxo,

I miss her big giant hugs, random crazy dance moves, impromptu jams on the piano, base guitar, harmonica, and ukulele. It’s a mix of excitement, happiness and sadness and I’m letting myself feel it all. I catch myself getting weepy throughout the day but I feel a deep sense of gratitude for this new season and what she’ll get to experience.
Aside from the rug, the girls styled their space and it turned out so cute. I love that she’s rooming with her friend from 1st grade. How can my child be in college?!😭😢
