See the ORC final reveal for our little Emmy’s room.
IT’S TIME!!! The One Room Challenge is officially over and I get to reveal Emmy’s room. Today is the last day of the 6 week design challenge and I couldn’t be happier. If you’re here for the first time, welcome! My name is Yuni and I’m the author of Love Your Abode. This is where my passion for interior design, DIY, hospitality and faith all collide. I believe that good design doesn’t have to cost a fortune and you will see I’m all about salvaging old things and making them new again. Today, I’m sharing my youngest daughter’s room makeover as a guest participant for the ORC.
This 6 week challenge is hosted by Linda at Calling it Home. The One Room Challenge shares the progress of 20 designers as well as hundreds of guest participant bloggers. This is my second time participating in the ORC as I transformed my guest room last Spring. If you want to start from the beginning, you can read about the weeks leading up to today.
Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5
Okay, without further ado, let’s get to the photos because there are a lot!
This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience. Unfortunately, many items are no longer available, vintage, thrifted or purchased from Homegoods so I’ve tried to source similar items for you.
Let’s remember how this room started.
BEFORE
Emmy grew out of her nursery last year and I decided it was the perfect time to tackle it and give it a big girl makeover. I wanted to create a space she could grow into for many years to come. Basically, she’ll have this room until she moves out! 😀
We moved out the crib and changing station and I sold the pink upholstered chair. She received a vintage bed and dresser from my in laws’ previous home. I updated both pieces of furniture with Velvet Finishes paint in Rococo, which is a creamy white color.
Ready for the AFTER?!?
The wallpaper panels were done a couple weeks ago when I partnered up with Wallpaper Boulevard and they sent me this beautiful petal pushers design. I put them up as panels so they could be taken down at any time. The frames were salvaged from my friend who saw them sitting next to the dumpster. I gave them new life with black satin paint. I loved the sitting chair so much from my last room makeover that Lamps Plus sent me another one.
The little antique stool bought over 13 years ago was recovered with some Ikea striped fabric I had on hand.
I’ll have to share my DIY faux floral wreath soon. Other than the multiple glue gun burns I received, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It adds a visual punch to the panels.
(Deer Antler Pillow Cover | Chair)
I love how modern the new lighting looks in the room. The room is a marriage of modern and vintage.
Semi-flush Minka light was generously provided by Lighting Design Company
(rustic metal tray | white pitcher)
(Blessed pillow cover | pom pom white blanket | shabby chic bedding)
( pink velvet pillow covers | middle pink pillow |
The beautiful wooden sign was custom made and generously sent to me by my friend, Stephanie at Simply Lovely Lumber. She can customize any sign and I love this one so much! The giant paper flowers were a total steal from Michaels last year in the dollar bin! I paid a few dollars for all of these and they are huge. I used them as decoration for my friend’s baby shower and I bought them knowing I would eventually put them up in Emmy’s room. They’re no longer available but you can find some similar crepe flowers from Amazon. The pom pom garland was found in the dollar section at Target last Christmas.
The vintage nightstand was another salvaged item another friend found for me sitting next to the dumpster. I don’t know why people throw such things away! All it needed was a little cleaning and some paint and it was new again. It’s perfect in Emmy’s room.
( Glass lamp | rustic lantern |
( acrylic tray | book ends )
I kept it a little whimsy on top of the vintage dresser since it is a little girl’s room. A bunch of her handmade hairpins sit on the DIY frame holder and I added some of her favorite books and faux plants. The dresser was revived with Velvet Finishes in Rococo.
( Window pane | black desk | pink cushion stool )
I brought in the black desk from JJ’s room and noticed it looked much better in Emmy’s room. I brought in my hot pink stool from another room and it’s the perfect chair for her desk.
These Stabilo fine point markers are my favorite. Emmy is always stealing them!
I love my Emmy girl. This little spot is perfect for us.
Emmy loves her room and I love that it will function as an additional guest room for family and friends especially during this holiday season.
