Why blog?
I’ve wanted to start a blog for a few years now but why blog now? Ever since I had kids, something with my brain happened. I know that sounds funny but all of a sudden, I had this burst of creative juices that needed to be released and I found one of my hidden passions come alive. Before I had kids, I enjoyed crafts like scrapbooking but that took a lot of time and time wasn’t something I had. I was creating all the time and wanted a place to archive these projects but I found blogging to be really intimidating because I’m what you would call, “technology challenged.” I decided it was time to bite the bullet and just figure out how to at least begin.
So with the encouragement of my husband, sister and friends, I finally decided to start journaling some of these projects down. One of the major reasons is for my kids. One day, I’m hoping they will have the desire to produce the homemade recipes they grew up with. This blog will allow them to access their childhood favorites. God has given me the heart of hospitality so naturally I want to share these recipes with others too. I guess it’s kind of like inviting you into my home and getting a virtual taste of these different dishes. The past few years, I’ve realized the significance of these meals my mom prepared all throughout my life and even now. She was the heart of our home and she truly made it her purpose to make it safe haven for the family. Her innumerable hours in the kitchen taught me the importance of serving others with love and inspired me to serve others in the same way. Now, I’m adamant about learning and cooking my mom’s dishes and want to pass them down to my children too. I figured I should finally learn a thing or two from the best cook I know.
The internet world can be really cool place. I’ve learned so much from others sharing ideas and sources and it can truly be a place for inspiration. I can’t ever sit too long without making something with my hands whether it be a dessert, meal or some sort of project. People ask how I have time to do all of that along with my other mom responsibilities. Trust me, I’m no superwoman. It’s just how God wired me and I make time for these little projects with my hands because that’s where I come alive. I think we always make time for things that we love. I truly believe that “creating” makes me a better mom, wife, friend, etc. It may not be crafts or cooking for you but maybe it’s your profession, reading, music, working out, sports, etc. Everyone has their own giftings and passions and when you figure out what they are, they continue to make you feel inspired and challenged. I’m terrible at a lot of things but that’s okay. Those areas aren’t my passions and I know what I enjoy and what I’m good at. Don’t compare yourself with someone else. Just be you.
So anyways, these are some of the main reasons why I started, “Love your abode.” I really hope it’s a place to inspire others and I know it’s already become a space to creatively express myself. Thanks for reading!!
